CDD Class Report Walden 12-1-09

WEEKLY CLASS REPORT
Walden House / 12-1-09

Opening Comments:
Class started on time. One student was completing dismissal downstairs, Roosevelt, and joined the class at 8:03.

Attendance:
We had 11 students in attendance. Raymond Carillo submitted his outline upon entering class.

INTRODUCTIONS OR OVERVIEW:
It was explained that Marco would not be completing the session (several students wanted to wish him well) and Brett was introduced. Brett spoke of his job as a Web Developer and shared his story of crossing over into computers from his education in Horticulture.

1ST TOPIC COVERED:
The computer discovery term quiz was distributed by Soni. The results were as follows:
7 perfect scores, 17/17
Juan Hernandez at 15/17
Brian McGarry and Mark Black 14/17
Roosevelt Harper 13/17

2ND TOPIC COVERED:

Notebooks were distributed and the first part of Module Two was reviewed by Brett with the class. Then, new items of cutting and pasting and file paths and structure were introduced. Donald Norman again participated, using the analogy of a file cabinet in a room which helped to illustrate as Brett drew a diagram on the white board.

ADDITIONAL TOPICS:
During the break, a list of the key items of Module Two were compiled on the white board for students.

LAB TIME:
All students returned promptly from break and began to work through the items on the board. Students used their title pages to cut and paste and demonstrated the opening of programs as both instructors walked around the room to answer questions and help them expedite the tasks.

FINAL NOTES:
Students were given back their quizzes and were let know that they would be learning about public speaking and presenting over the next week as they work to finish writing their papers.
