CDD Class Report Cri-Help 3-20-10

WEEKLY CLASS REPORT
Cri-Help / 3.20.10

Opening Comments:
At the beginning of class we discussed what we would be doing for the last class and what needed to be completed for graduation.

Attendance:
All students were on time and all students were present for the entire class.

1ST TOPIC COVERED:
We went through the email vocabulary answering any questions the students had.


2ND TOPIC COVERED:
Elvio presented his paper.

ADDITIONAL TOPICS COVERED
We discussed the graduation with the students.

LAB TIME:
The remaining students finished typing their papers and doing their blogs. All students completed the assignments for graduation. Ralph had to write his blog in a Word Doc as the CDD website was down for the second have of lab time.


FINAL NOTES:
Richard was chosen for final speaker with Adolfo being the back up.

CDD Class Report Uhuru 3-16-10

WEEKLY CLASS REPORT
Uhuru House /03-16-2010
OPENING COMMENTS:
Class started at 7PM.
ATTENDANCE:
We had 11 students in attendance. Gail Harris has left the facility.

INTRODUCTIONS OR OVERVIEW:
We went over the calendar, explaining that this was the 2nd to last class and that graduation would be on the 23rd of March.

1ST TOPIC COVERED:
Chris started out by going over the Internet. He talked about the Browser and navigating through a website using the Browser.

2ND TOPIC COVERED:
Juan went over useful Internet sites. Together, Chris and Juan discussed the history of the Internet and what the different names mean - .com, .biz, .org, etc.

3RD TOPIC COVERED:
We then had the students that had complete papers read theirs to the class. The class was very supportive and found out some things about each other that they did not know. Hearing other students’ papers also helped to inspire the students that do not have complete papers.

ADDITIONAL TOPICS:
Chris and Juan briefly went over the Blog, what it is and showed them the Blog page.

LAB TIME:
Lab time was spent working on papers or typing in Mavis Beacon. Juan and Chris went one on one with students to help them with their papers.

FINAL NOTES:

Complete but still typing: Chris, Simone
Almost complete: David, Jeffrey, Juana (she also presented what she had to the class), Orlando, OscarReggie and Sharanda are still working on their papers and will probably need the most help.

CDD Class Report Cri-Help 3-13-10

WEEKLY CLASS REPORT

Opening Comments:
All the students showed up on time

Attendance:
All students were present.

1ST TOPIC COVERED:
Discussed presenting and public speaking and students practiced reciting their papers. David did not have his paper, as it was lost/stolen. Adolfo was chosen to be the main presenter.

2ND TOPIC COVERED:
We went over the first three pages of how to use the Internet answering any questions the students had on the topic.

ADDITIONAL TOPICS COVERED
Went over any questions the students had about their papers.

LAB TIME:
We split the class up having some students finish the writing of their papers while the others started typing them out.

FINAL NOTES:
Class ran smoothly with no problems. Jean Pierre is finished with his paper.

WEEKLY CLASS REPORT
Uhuru House 03.06.2010

OPENING COMMENTS:
Class started at 11AM.

ATTENDANCE:
We had 4 students in attendance.

INTRODUCTIONS OR OVERVIEW:
Loryn took roll, handed out the workbooks, and briefly reviewed todays topic at hand. In addition, Loryn informed the students that the matching test will take place next Tuesday.

1st TOPIC COVERED:
Loryn and Mark reviewed the last 5 Computer Discovery Terms, and then, we went through all of the terms in preparation of the matching test next Tuesday.

2nd TOPIC COVERED:
Loryn presented and lectured on the first half of Module 2. During the lecture, she showed and asked the students on how to (perform functions): -run a program, -switching between open applications, -using the keyboard to switch between programs (i.e., ALT+TAB), -how to arrange application windows (i.e., cascading/tiling/minimizing all windows.
Thereafter, Mark presented the last two pages (p32-p34)-working with dialog boxes: text box, radio buttons, list box, check boxes, accessing help witin dialog boxes, and how to utilize the keyboard within the dialog boxes (i.e., SHIFT+TAB).

3rd TOPIC COVERED:
Then, Loryn presented and lectured on 'Using Microsoft Word'. Functions included:-how to access MS Word (start -> Program -> Microsoft Word)-how to save as a doc file on My Document folder.-explained the difference between the title bar, menu bar and tool bar. She gave several examples for each function and how it relates to their Title Page. -most common functions: -how to use the command -how to use the command -how to use the command -tabs: explained, left/right tabs, -explained how to indent, change font size/color/style, how to right justify/center/left justify a line of string (words). -explained: Find/Replace (Edit -> Find/Replace),how to use the Spelling checker, Thesaurus, drawing toolbar, -explained the difference between a portrait and landscape layout. -explained header vs footer, and gave clear/concise examples for each function. -briefly explained margins (File -> Page Setup).

LAB TIME:
Lab time was spent utilizing MS Word, Loryn explained on how to create a Title Page. She gave an example on the chalkboard. Thereafter, the students followed. Loryn and Mark assisted all of the students with their Title Page. We helped the students on how to Save the doc, how to input text, and how to center justify the string of text.

FINAL NOTES:
The female students were excused from class from a field trip. Jeffrey was late and was marked absent. And Oscar had completed his outline.

CDD Class Report Uhuru 2-23-10

WEEKLY CLASS REPORT
Uhuru House /02-23-2010

OPENING COMMENTS:
Class started at 7PM.

ATTENDANCE:
We had 12 students in attendance. Three students have been asked to leave the facility for personal reasons.

INTRODUCTIONS OR OVERVIEW:
Juan introduced himself and explained what he does and why he is a volunteer. Some students expressed interest in his military background.

1ST TOPIC COVERED:
Chris started out by briefly reviewing the first half of Module 1. He went over the desktop, Task Bar, icons, minimizing and maximizing windows, etc.

2ND TOPIC COVERED:
Chris then went over the outline and its purposes. He demonstrated a simple outline on the whiteboard by describing the steps to buy milk, with an introduction, body, and conclusion. This helped the students understand what is needed to complete an outline since many students were unsure. He also discussed possible topics for the papers.

3RD TOPIC COVERED:
Juan covered the next 6 Discovery Terms (video card, sound card, power supply, CD/DVD drive, modem, and monitor). The class took turns volunteering to read aloud the definitions. After a student read a definition, Juan led a short discussion about the item with examples.

ADDITIONAL TOPICS:
Chris also reminded the students that their outlines were due the following Tuesday. It was stressed that the paper itself was not due, just the outline. Juan also stressed the importance of writing the outline as opposed to typing it so that it could be edited outside of class.

LAB TIME:
Lab time was spent in Mavis Beacon and/or working on the outlines. Many students needed guidance on the subject of their paper. Others needed help in honing their outlines.

FINAL NOTES:
The students seem to be on track to finish their outlines by the due date.
